What is the first thing that come to mind when you think about sustainable fashion, or shopping ethically? Most people’s mind will go straight to thrifting or shopping with brands who claim they support the cause. Not many people realize you can build your own timeless closet by making your own clothes. I know you may be thinking, that’s impossible to achieve, but it’s not and I’ll explain how!
Clothes flipping became a major trend during the pandemic, many people got bored and began experimenting with sewing. The tried eventually died out and you don't see many people sewing anymore or even being experimental with fashion at all. Imagine if people all over took old clothes and flipped them, we would not only be saving money, but also all coming up with original clothing making fashion more relevant versus fast fashion. e who take a real interest into fashion designing or even just fashion in general, would greatly benefit from trying this out. Below is an example of Kehumani taking fabric from it looks like a Walmart T-shirt and creating a whole new original piece she took this dress that is clearly out of style , and turned it into a more trendy piece!

If clothes flipping isn’t something that appears interesting, there is always the option to go buy or order sustainable fabric or even inexpensive items and sew up all new one-of-a-kind pieces. This is the luxury of sewing; you can create any look you want, and you will be the only one wearing the piece. Similar to Kheumani mentioned above, one could build a career out of it if they really worked hard. Overall, I do believe people who take a real interest into fashion designing or even just fashion in general, would greatly benefit from trying this out. Below is an example of Kehumani taking fabric from it looks like a Walmart T-shirt and creating a whole new origonal hat! The limits you can go with this option is limitless!
